Birthday Party

With the fire bans lifted, it was time for the yearly Birthday Party.

The Birthday Boy

The guests

The Family

Cooking Dinner

The Cake complete with Sparkles

The Relaxing Fire

And the Tree that ended the evening.

After looking at these photos, I realized they were all taken with the 18-70 kit lens. I had decided to do the whole evening with this lens to see how they would turn out. There's was something not quite right about the photos with people and I couldn't put my finger on it. Now I realize it was the kit lens. Goodbye kit lens, Sigma 105, when will you be returned to me?

  2. (And don't be too hard on the kit lenses- they're a lot of fun if you choose to exploit their qualities like vignetting and distortion!)

  3. This kit lens can be OK. Just not for portraits when it's getting dark. But this is how we learn about our lenses, by making mistakes.
